London Marathon: Runners and crowds mark Boston attack
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-2223694

Thousands of runners in the London Marathon showed their support for the victims of the Boston bombings by wearing black ribbons on their vests. Before the race started a 30-second silence was enforced. An estimate of a hundred police officers was added to the normal security at the marathon, not only for security reasons but also as a reassurance for the runners who were participating. Virgin London Marathon also helped out the victims of the bombings by donating 2 pounds for every runner who reached the finish line. The event passed without any accidents.

 My opinion:

I thought this was an inspiring article about how the marathon crowd closely sympathizes with the victims of the Boston Bombings, which shocked the world last week. There was a lot of anxiety for the London runners in the past week, if the marathon was going to be held at all or if there was another threat out there. Luckily the event passed without accident. The support of the participating runners by wearing black ribbons seems appropriate and also the charity of Virgin London Marathon seems like genuine concern, and not overdone anxiety.

I wholeheartedly agree with you and the sympathizers. It is great to see that people show their support to both those passed away and those injured at the Boston Marathon. The 100 extra police officers must have surely felt reassuring to the runners. Have you got any number on how much money was raised by the Virgin London Marathon? I would like to know! And I wonder, would you have still ran the marathon? ( Imagining your legs were a little longer and more suitable for running ;) )
