Prism: security services operated within law, says David Cameron

David Cameron, answered some questions about the recent “Prism
scandal” at an event in Essex. The prime minister defended the intelligence
program by explaining that the UK is dangerous right now, and the recent
Woolwich attack supported this. But when a reporter asked him if he was aware
that GCHQ was working with Prism he answered the question vaguely and explained
that William Hague would answer their questions today. Sir Malcolm Rifkind, former
foreign secretary, says the whistleblower himself (Edward Snowden) broke the
law but GCHQ might also have worked outside of the legal framework.
My opinion:
I think it’s incredibly easy for David Cameron to sidestep
the questions on whether he has known about GCHQ’s involvement with Prism. Like
Facebook, Google and Microsoft the government can easily deny it as a whole but
it still doesn’t change the fact that it has happened, and is still happening.
The whole scandal quite shocked me, but what scared me even more is that I wasn’t
as shocked as I should have been. Another excuse that Cameron used was that
GCHQ was working within the law, but what does that even mean anymore with our
privacy laws? Does anybody really know?
